- Action Delay (possible through the Imaginary and Quantum element Weakness Breaks)

How Do You Activate Break Effect?
Break Effect is a state that activates once your HSR characters break through an enemy’s defenses in the form of the Toughness Meter, thus initiating their Weakness Break. The Toughness Meter is the white bar you see above the enemy’s HP.
When you deplete this Toughness Meter, it makes the enemy susceptible to various types of damage by triggering their Weakness Break.
Break Effect helps to augment your character’s damage output depending on their element in the following ways:
- Fire: Deals additional Fire DMG and applies a burn effect which inflicts Fire DoT
- Ice: Deals additional Ice DMG and freezes the target
- Wind: Deals additional Wind DMG and activates Wind Shear, inflicting Wind DoT
- Lightning: Deals additional Lightning DMG and applies Shock, dealing Lightning DoT
- Physical: Deals additional Physical DMG and activates a Bleed effect inflicting Physical DoT
- Imaginary: Deals additional Imaginary DMG and applies the Imprisonment effect, delaying the enemy’s actions and reducing their speed (SPD)
- Quantum: Deals additional Quantum DMG and triggers the Entanglement effect, which delays the enemy’s actions and inflicts Quantum DMG at the start of their next turn. This instance of Quantum damage increases when the enemy is hit.
Choosing the right characters to exhaust an opponent’s Toughness Meter has massive effects on gameplay. For example, a Fire character, like Hook, will deal increased Fire DMG to an enemy weak to the Fire element.
Break Effect activates only when you trigger Weakness Break on your chosen enemy. So choose your characters wisely!

What is Toughness Meter?
When up against any enemy, you’ll notice that they have 2 bars above their head:
- Red Bar (HP)
- White Bar (Toughness Meter)
You might notice some elements above those bars. These represent the enemy’s elemental weaknesses. A single enemy may be weak to multiple elements at once, making the task of building a team that much easier.
This quality-of-life feature, where the enemy’s weaknesses are displayed above their heads, gives you an edge in combat and helps you to plan out your moves before engaging. The weaknesses are random each time, making the game more challenging and fun, with options for more diverse team compositions.
Moreover, it also encourages you not to rely on one build for most of the game. The elemental weakness icons are crucial for assessing which character’s abilities to use on which enemy’s Toughness Meter, so keep an eye out for new and interesting strategies each time.
What is Weakness Break?
Weakness Break activates once you deplete an enemy’s Toughness Meter. The moment this effect triggers, the enemy becomes more vulnerable to various forms of damage, as mentioned above.
While some attacks can inflict direct HP damage, breaking through an enemy’s Toughness Meter and activating Weakness Break makes the game more engaging and fun as you play around with varied team compositions and strategies.
For tougher enemies with higher HP and Toughness Meter values, consider striking a perfect balance between dealing damage to HP and reducing the Toughness. Doing so will help you execute a character’s Ultimate skill to finish off an opponent if the white bar is still up.

- Opt for characters whose elements align with the enemy’s weakness icons. If the enemy’s elemental icon glows when you choose a character of the same element, you will know you’ve done it right!
- Keep in mind that prioritizing elemental match-ups is a sure-shot way of depleting the enemy’s Toughness Meter.
- Different characters can deplete the Toughness Meter of enemies by different amounts, so choose your team wisely.
- Some characters’ Ultimate skills are best used for breaking the enemy’s Toughness Meter, making them valuable for most team compositions in HSR.
