Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader may not have dozens of romance options, but all the companions are so distinct and well thought out that you really can’t go wrong with romancing any of them. That said, we’ll warn you ahead of time: not all of them can be romanced by any player. This is not a playersexual system. The characters have preferences.
This guide will walk you through the romance options, what romancing them is like, and the companions’ romance preferences in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader.
Your Romance Options
- Cassia Orsellio – only accepts male characters
- Heinrix van Calox – only accepts female characters. Heinrix van Calox’s full romance guide can be found here.
- Jae Heydari
- Yrliet Lanaevyss
- Marazhai Aezyrraesh
How to Romance Cassia Orsellio in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader
To get Cassia Orsellio, you need to finish the “Secrets of the Navis Nobilite” quest. If you can’t find this quest, keep playing the “Looking for Trouble” quest and it should eventually pop up as part of the quest flow. Throughout the quest, keep telling her you want her to join your voidship. She will later agree and you’ll be able to find her on your ship’s deck. From there, go towards her and ask her to tell you about herself. Select the following options.
- “Tell me about yourself.”
- “Sorry, Cassia, but I would like to know more about you personally, not your family.”
- “Your third eye — do you always conceal it?”
- “You are beautiful, Cassia. Do not let anyone or anything convince you otherwise.”
- “I would not dare to make fun of a lady’s feelings, especially not one who has captivated me since I first set eyes on her.”
You’ll know it worked when you start seeing a “Let’s talk about us, shall we?” dialogue option now available when you start another conversation with her.
How to Romance Heinrix Van Calox in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader
Like Cassia, you’ll find Heinrix during Chapter 1, specifically in the “Gleam of the Final Dawn” quest. You will find him while trying to look for the Interrogator of the Ordo Xenos in the monastery.
This quest chain will lead you to a boss fight with Aurora. After the fight, select:
- [Lore (Xenos)] [Inspect the control panel damaged by Aurora]
- Continue
- Continue
- [Dogmatic] “Heinrix, take a look over here. Is this by any chance what you are looking for?”
You will only get the 4th dialogue line if you did the first steps correctly. If it appears, you should see Heinrix at the voidship. Choose these dialogue options:
- “Thank you. The Inquisition’s generosity is greatly appreciated.”
- “Conversing with you is no less disconcerting for me, Master van Calox.”
- “You misunderstand me. I am not unnerved by your status, but by you personally.”

How to Romance Jae Heydari in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader
Buckle up because this romance is more complicated.
Jae Heydari can be enlisted as a crew member in Chapter 2, and whether you’re a male or female Rogue Trader, you can pursue a romantic relationship with her. To add her to your team, complete the “Persona Non Grata” and “Wanted on Footfall” quests.
During the “Persona Non Grata” quests, choose these dialogue options:
- “What do you need help with?”
- “I suspect that Vladaym wants to keep the cargo out of your hands. And I want to put him in his place.”
During the “Wanted on Footfall” quest, choose these:
- “Jae Heydari, the owner of this cargo, is presently under my protection — under a Rogue Trader’s protection. Tell your master that he should think twice before crossing her from now on.”
- Continue.
- “A Rogue Trader could use someone with your talents and connections, Jae. I would like to see you in my retinue.”
- “I wish we could forget decorum entirely in each other’s presence…”
Once Jae joins your crew, locate her on the voidship bridge. In your first conversation with her, choose the following dialogue options:
- “Was there some business you wished to discuss?”
- Continue.
- “A truly wonderful gift. I accept it with gratitude.”
- “Go on.”
- “That sounds simple enough. I will help you.”
Later, return to Jae and choose these dialogue lines:
- “You don’t look like a typical smuggler.”
- “Why did you choose to come to the Koronus Expanse?”
- “How did you escape from Efreet?”
- “Judging by your implants, you’ve had quite a few close shaves over the years.”
- “Thank you for sharing this.”
- “You must forgive my prying, but has the esteemed princess’s heart been claimed by some lucky fellow?”
- “I enjoy being with you. I would like us to spend more time together.”
- “I do not see you as a toy. I just like you…”
- [Drop to one knee] “My dazzling one, can I trust that you hold in your heart at least the smallest drop of regard for me?”
- “I am inviting you to dinner. Over some decent wine. I’m sure we shall find a fertile topic of conversation.”
Moving forward, you should now be able to ask her to talk about your relationship.
How to Romance Yrliet Lanaevyss in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader
Yrliet Lanaevyss is hard to kick off a romance with because she’s a xeno. Because her views are opposed to the accepted views in the Imperium, certain dialogue choices can turn her off entirely.
To start a romance with Yrliet, talk to her on the voidship bridge after recruiting her in Chapter 2.
Opt for the dialogue option, “The Chaos Gods are the enemies of the Imperium, which means they are my enemies. You can be sure of that,” when discussing ‘She Who Thirsts.’ This choice will earn Yrliet’s respect.
Finish the “Aeldari in Distress” quest. Yrliet will approach you during the quest. Choose the following:
- “My people have behaved contemptibly, and I apologize for it.”
- “I shall speak to my subjects. You will not be bothered again.”
- Later, speak to Yrliet on the voidship bridge and choose the dialogue option that begins with, “I have been mulling over our conversation, and I can understand why you do not like people.”
Continue the”Aeldari in Distress” quest, and Yrliet will start another conversation. Respond as follows:
- “You have my complete attention.”
- [Close your eyes, empty your mind, and speak the word] “Li-lae-than…”
- “I think I’m beginning to understand.”
- “Thank you for telling me how you see the world.”
- “I also see something greater in the world around me, something deeper than the outer guise of things.”
- “I see the suffering of those around me, and it compels me to act.”
- “To me, you are a foreign yet beguiling world, Yrliet. I hope that one day I will come to know you. And on that day, my own world will become much deeper.”
Yrliet’s romance is a slow burn so a lot of the romance is very subtle. Make sure to read carefully before responding to her.
In Chapter 3, a significant event occurs, and you need to forgive Yrliet to advance the relationship with her.
How to Romance Marzhai Aezyrraesh in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader
Marzhai is a handful, but he’s a sweet guy if you know how to romance him right. After getting him following the Arena fight, you’ll see the “Suspicious Absence” quest Head to the Pit to complete the mission, and during the subsequent conversation with Ulfar and Argenta, choose the dialogue option: “I did not save Marazhai’s life so you could take matters into your own hands! Put your weapons away, all of you!”
Following this scene, a new conversation exclusively with Marazhai ensues. Engage in dialogue with him and select the following options:
- “What do you need?”
- “Very well. Should we encounter Yremeryss at any point, I shall allow you to deal the final blow.”
- [Look at what the plate was covering]
- “Your armor is held on with hooks that dig into your body?”
- [Nod wordlessly]
After returning to your ship and initiating the first warp jump with Marazhai on board, Vox Master Vigdis informs you of an emergency at the officers’ deck. Choose the “I am going to the officers’ deck immediately” option to trigger the “Soulless” mission.
Find Marazhai and bring him back to his senses. When he responds, choose the “Marazhai! Behind you!” option during the ensuing battle. Make sure he doesn’t die during the fight (otherwise, good luck romancing a ghost). Upon defeating all enemies, a new conversation begins, and choose the following options:
- “Marazhai, are you sure you have regained your senses?”
- “Your presence is causing me a great deal of grief, xenos.”
- “I shall grant you hunting grounds, Marazhai. A bay on the lower decks. You can do whatever your heart desires down there, but you are not to leave its bounds during warp jumps.”
Finish the conversation and talk to Marazhai on the voidship bridge to complete the quest.
After a few warp jumps, Marazhai will appear in your office, discussing a promise he made. During this conversation, opt for the following dialogue choices:
- “What do you mean by ‘feast’?”
- “Please, Marazhai, be my guide.”
From this point onward, you gain access to intimate scenes with Marazhai. Enjoy.
