With the advent of the 56th Warframe (or playable character) in Warframe, the meta is once again facing disruption. Dante, the Warframe in question, was released on March 27, 2024, and has apparently been trivializing the game not just for its users but also for the whole squad as it’s a jack-of-all-trades Warframe that’s also seemingly a master of all.
This isn’t always the case when a new Warframe is introduced. However, Dante has gone above and beyond expectations that some players in the Warframe community thought that it’s too much of a good thing.
Some Want Dante Nerfed
Dante hasn’t even been out for more than a week but the game’s current meta is already shifting in his favor.
For starters, it’s a Warframe that can generate tons of Overguard in a snap of a finger, meaning it’s next to immortal as long as you can maintain its abilities. That part is as easy as pressing three buttons in less than two seconds. And this immortality buff is for the whole squad, not just for the player using Dante.
Meanwhile, his damage capabilities are through the roof as he can easily dispatch hordes of level 100+ Steel Path enemies in the blink of an eye using his 3rd and 4th Abilities.
So it’s not surprising that some vocal members of the Warframe community are calling for a nerf which appeared to be the implication of Reddit user u/Mr_Jackabin’s post.
While Dante is indeed one of the strongest and most recent additions to the game, Mr_Jackabin compels players to see the bigger picture. There are stronger Warframes in the current meta and they take even less of an effort on the player’s part to become overpowered.
It’s worth noting that Dante is overpowered on many fronts, not just damage or survival.
Still, players calling for a nerf might be on to something. Similarly overpowered Warframes such as Saryn (mentioned in the Reddit post) can kill battalions of enemies so fast, that other squad members are being denied gameplay. They can just sit back and watch as other players do most of the work.
For some, that might be ideal, especially players grinding for loot or rewards. But we imagine it’s not a fun way to get to know the game if you’re a newbie or are relatively new. Dante is in a similar boat where his damage output and abilities can hog all the kills and inadvertently ruin the gameplay for others.
But then again, it’s not clear what percentage of players are experiencing this phenomenon.
Will Digital Extremes Nerf Dante?
Nerfing a newly released Warframe is a poor business decision in many aspects and is bound to create a painful backlash from the community. So if you’re worried that your new favorite might get hobbled, don’t be. The chances are slim to none.
However, it’s not unheard of for developer Digital Extremes to “rework” or “re-balance” some Warframes they think are getting too much spotlight and are overshadowing the other Warframes.
This depends on how many players are using Dante in the long run and perhaps if the subsequently released, newer Warframes are being ignored as players still prefer to take Dante in missions. Even then, that will take a long while before it becomes an actual situation or concern.
For now, you can rest easy as Dante is here to stay and to slay.
