Our modern world has turned into a tech jungle. Everything is going digital and everything is more or less powered by electricity. Computers and smartphones are now a necessity in the workplace and at home, whereas those things wouldn’t have been a universal essential a few decades ago.
To keep up with the growing computing demand of our times, these phones and computers are becoming more and more advanced as each year passes, and so does their price and complexity.
The more complicated systems and gadgets get, the more fragile they become, and the harder they become to fix. Some companies and repair shops are making it worse by overcharging for a simple repair, which ultimately leads to the consumer opting to buy a new device instead of fixing their current one.
So, with all that, welcome to Tech It Yourself! This is a biweekly column that will teach you to repair, modify, or craft gadgets and devices so that you can utilize your devices’ full lifespans!
The main goal of this column is to keep gadgets and devices away from landfills which will help our environment in the long run.
Most of the posts in TIY will focus on DIY projects relating to consumer tech and devices, including simple repairs, modifications, and upgrades. Plus, I’ll also put out some guides on how to craft useful accessories and devices from recycled or bare bone parts and components.
Every once in a while, I’ll talk about things that concern your privacy, online life, and everything else that will help you survive the tech jungle. With companies, organizations, and governments trying to help the environment out, we too can do our part by prolonging the life of our devices.
