Ulf’s Quest is here, and with it comes a whole array of different awards. To get the most out of this event, there are a few things you should do and a lot of things you’re going to want to avoid. You should know right off the bat that this event isn’t easy, and new players are going to have a hard time progressing through to the end, but that’s expected, so don’t be disheartened. With that out of the way, here’s our guide to Ulf’s Quest in Tacticus.
What is Ulf’s Quest?
Ulf’s Quest is basically a repeat of similar quests we’ve had in the past with different characters. When a character is released, they have a two-week window where players complete quests and earn points to unlock chests with event shards. Around a month after this event, Snowprint releases a quest that marks the start of being able to find the character in requisition drops. Requisition drops are hard to come by unless you use promo codes to load up on Blackstone, so these release events can be a great way to unlock new characters.
The quest itself is a lot of fun and has decent rewards for costing nothing. You can find XP books, lots of upgrade materials, character shards, badges, coins, and more. You’ll get better rewards as you progress through the quest, which can be hard, even for players that have a decent lineup. The important thing is always to use your tokens and try to push as high as you can for the best rewards.
Is Ulf’s Quest bundle worth it?
Ulf’s Quest Bundle is a $20 pack that includes 3 Rare Imperial Orbs, 2 Epic Imperial Orbs, 1 Legendary Orb, 2 Requisition Scrolls, 6 Quest Tokens, and 20 Raid Passes. You’ll also get 2 Ulf Shards for every medal you earn during the event. Unfortunately, Ulf’s Quest Bundle, like all Quest Bundles, is almost certainly not worth it.
The immediate rewards aren’t that great, and you can only get a maximum of 90 Ulf shards if you get every single medal in the Quest. For $20, you can get 2600 Blackstone, which is enough to fund energy refills for a whole character release event and progress further in the game. If they increased the number of shards, or let you use Blackstone to purchase it, then maybe it would be worth it. Until then, just focus on using ad watches for free Quest Tokens and pushing for as many points as you can.
How to Get the Most Out of Ulf’s Quest
In these quest events, you’ll complete different PvE levels for rewards and Battle Score that goes towards event chests. The levels themselves can be tough, and you are always limited to certain units. The title character must always be used and is maxed out for each level’s rarity, whether you own them or not.
Your characters are also downgraded to the rarity you’re playing at. A Legendary Typhus will be capped at Uncommon when you’re playing an Uncommon level. On the other hand, an Uncommon Aethena will still be Uncommon if you try and use them in an Epic encounter. If you’re wondering who to use, you might want to take a look at our Tacticus Tier List and see who’s on top in the current meta.
You start the event with six tickets and should immediately use 1 to generate more. You’ll generate one ticket every two hours. The event lasts for a total of 72 hours. This means you can play at most 42 levels in each quest—unless you watch ads. While you should always use ad watches in the daily shop and for energy refills, during Quest events, it’s smart to use them for Quest Tickets and a shot at Epic gear.
Completing Encounters
The first thing you’re going to want to do when the event starts is to try to beat as many levels as possible without anyone dying. You want to maximize the number of medals you get. More medals equal more rewards. Focus on pushing as high as you can while optimizing medals to unlock more levels.
You also want to try and complete each additional task on a level, like by completing a level without Ranged attacks or without anyone taking damage. You can find these challenges along the left side of the screen when you’re deploying characters or at the top of the encounter screen before starting it, as seen in the above image. Each challenge is worth 100 Battle Score, which will unlock more Event Crates containing different rewards.
After you’ve pushed as high as you can go, going back to the bottom and trying to get the full 500-600 points is a good idea. This will unlock more and more chests—but if you’re stuck, don’t force it. Don’t play the same level over and over again, trying to squeeze out a few more points. Your tokens are better spent on higher levels where you get a chance at rare, epic, and even legendary items. These items save hundreds of energy needed to upgrade characters that you would have had to use to farm common and uncommon items, so get them while you can.
Tips for Completing Encounter Restrictions
The restrictions on each encounter (no damage taken, no ranged units, etc.) are all pretty self-explanatory, but there are some tips you can follow to complete a few of them if you’re having trouble. They do give you more Battle Score, which unlocks chests, and it’s free, so you might as well try and complete them.
No Damage Taken
This one is pretty easy. The key is to remember that only damage taken by your characters counts. Any summons from Bellator, Archimatos, Commissar Yarrick, and the like don’t count. Use this to your advantage by positioning your units further back and letting the summons take the heat. Enemy units will often prioritize summons even if it isn’t the best decision. You should also keep in mind that healing damage your character has taken doesn’t count either; you’ll still fail the challenge.
Not Deploying Anyone With X Damage Type
This one is relatively simple to follow. You can either click the restriction when you’re deploying characters to remove any characters with that damage type, or you can look at each character before deploying them to see if they have that damage type. If either their ranged or melee attack has it, you will fail the challenge.
Lightning Victories
Getting Lightning Victories can be hard in quest events, as killing all the enemies within the time frame and abiding by other restrictions is definitely tough. If you know for sure you won’t be able to complete the level by following the restrictions and getting a Lightning Victory, you’re better off shooting for one or the other. Lightning Victories can easily be accomplished by going all out and trying to kill every unit as fast as possible, regardless of whether or not you’ll take damage.
Wrap Up
To sum it up, have fun playing Ulf’s Quest and try and maximize your rewards while it’s here, but don’t worry too much about it. Don’t worry about buying the Quest Bundle, as it’s mostly a waste of money unless you’re a high-level player with the cash to spare. Focus on completing as many levels as possible, using all of your Quest Tickets, and getting all the Battle Score you can.
