On May 22, 2023, the 58-year-old Northern Irish actor Ray Stevenson passed away unexpectedly. The news came as a shock to many, as he was in the middle of filming Cassino in Ischia when it happened. Many fans and colleagues expressed their condolences and shared memories of Stevenson, who was involved in a multitude of projects before his untimely death.
Stevenson has a long and storied filmography spanning several decades. He is most well-known for his work in Thor, The Book of Eli, Divergent, and the hit Indian Telugu epic of 2022, RRR. He also starred in numerous television series, including Dexter, where he played Season 7’s Isaak Sirko, and Star Wars Rebels, where he voiced Gar Saxon.

How did Ray Stevenson Die?
Unfortunately, there has been no official cause of death. After almost four months, authorities and those close haven’t announced the official reason he passed away, but it’s assumed he died of a heart attack or something similar. According to PEOPLE’s sources, on May 21st, he was admitted to a hospital after feeling chest pains, only to pass away on the 22nd, only four days before his 59th birthday.
Some people have speculated or wondered if Stevenson passed away from cancer, but that is unlikely as the timeline between his arrival at the hospital and death is simply way too quick for that to be a probable answer. As we mentioned, however, there has not been an official announcement yet, so we can only guess that it was heart-related judging by the chest pains he supposedly felt before passing.
Did Ray Stevenson finish Ahsoka?
Stevenson managed to finish Ahsoka well before his passing, as it wrapped up filming in 2022. Stevenson received a tribute just before the end credits of Ahsoka, with a screen that reads “For our friend, Ray.” As you may be aware, Stevenson voices one of the antagonists on the show, Baylan Skoll, a Dark Jedi who survived Palpatine’s Order 66. With the series yet to conclude, it’s uncertain how Ahsoka will handle his passing, whether he will be recast or if his character’s story ends in the first season.
Will Ray Stevenson still be in Cassino in Ischia?
No, unfortunately, Stevenson was recast after his passing, almost certainly due to the fact that filming had only just begun when he passed away. Dominic Purcell will be replacing the late Stevenson in Frank Ciota’s film, which has yet to set a release date. You might know Dominic from shows such as Prison Break or Legends of Tomorrow, as well as Dracula in Blade: Trinity.
What posthumous credits will Ray Stevenson have?
As mentioned previously, he will still be a crucial part of the first season of Ahsoka as one of the main antagonists. Besides that, he will also be credited in the film Gateway to the West, an action history film that focuses on the Mongolian invasion of the Kingdom of Hungary. Since he was recast in Cassino in Ischia, it is highly unlikely he will be credited for that film, but there may be a tribute to Stevenson, as seen in the end credits of the first episode of Ahsoka.
