Jujutsu Kaisen respects its power rankings, especially for the good guys. There’s a clear line that separates the hierarchy and the show never fails to mention it nearly every other episode or so. The same goes for Jujutsu Kaisen cursed spirits though they tend to get mixed into the sorcerer ranking, making it somewhat baffling for viewers who just want to see cool characters fight.
Because even the Jujutsu Kaisen cursed spirits or bad guys are out for each other’s necks. And if you want to understand the politics between these pseudo-demons/devils or why they’re afraid of some guy with pink hair or some rotting fingers, here’s a rough ranking of how the bad guys in Jujutsu Kaisen measure up against one another.
Finger Bearer
They look freaky, but Finger Bearers are actually fodder Special Grade enemies that are created when regular or lowly cursed spirits consume at least one of Sukuna’s disembodied fingers. This transforms them into Special Grade cursed spirits that can make quick work of most Jujutsu students.
Still, they’re no match for an accomplished sorcerer or two who aren’t Special Grade. And against more natural Special Grade cursed users, they might as well be ragdolls.
The only reason they’re even classified as Special Grade in Jujutsu Kaisen’s mythos is because they borrowed a small percentage of Sukuna’s powers.
Tamamo-no-Mae Incarnate
Well, there was bound to be a cursed spirit that looked like it came straight out of a Japanese horror movie.
Tamamo-no-Mae Incarnate is a cursed spirit whom a rogue Suguru Geto utilized in Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie against Yuta Okkotsu.
Not much is known about this cursed spirit except that it’s powerful and one of the few Special Grade ones in existence.
Sadly, Tamamo-no-Mae Incarnate was quickly defeated before she could even display her full might. Geto died in the resulting defeat, and Tamamo-no-Mae’s whereabouts have been unknown since then, presumably after she escaped from Geto’s clutches.
Dagon
Dagon has appeared on the show though only in its weakest form. It’s one of the Special Grade cursed spirits working with Geto and their genocidal group.
As for how he was formed, Dagon was born out of humanity’s fear of water and natural disasters, and this is where the extent of his powers lie. In his true and evolved form, the combined efforts of two Grade 1 sorcerers aren’t enough to take him down.
We just won’t mention who those two sorcerers are to avoid spoilers.
But due to his somewhat placid and docile nature (unless threatened), Dagon tends to be overshadowed by the more proactive cursed spirits.
Jogo
He’s been prominently featured in the anime and was shortly defeated and humiliated by Satoru Gojo after his debut. But that doesn’t mean he’s a pushover because there’s only one Special Grade cursed spirit who can defeat Satoru.
Jogo was rescued by a comrade just before he was killed or exorcized. So he’ll certainly be back at some point in the story, stronger than before.
In the manga, which is way ahead of the story’s developments, Jogo eventually became strong enough to kill several high-level sorcerers in a matter of seconds and even earned praise from the King of Curses.
But even at that point, he likely is still no match for Satoru.
Hanami
The weird nature-themed cursed spirit that appears in the villain’s ranks during season 1 of the anime was a lot more powerful than he looks. If fans can recall, Hanami was able to go toe-to-toe with two Grade 1 sorcerers (one of whom was Sukuna’s vessel).
He also rescued Jogo from certain death, snatching him up from Saturo’s hands and escaping effortlessly that even the most powerful sorcerer in the anime couldn’t catch up.
And as far as cursed spirits go, Hanami is one of the most justified since he was born out of humanity’s mistreatment of nature.
Hanami will appear again at some point in season 2 and will be instrumental to a certain plot point that will shake up and disrupt Jujutsu Kaisen’s power hierarchy.
Choso
Another character who made a brief appearance in Season 1 is Choso, an enigmatic half-cursed spirit who doesn’t really believe in his villain group’s ideals and only wants to look after his cursed spirit brothers. Still, he’s one of the most dangerous cursed spirits in the lore and has undoubtedly earned his place as a Special Grade.
As for his battle prowess and feats, even someone like Yuji Itadori was no match for his skill. He actually was one of the few Special Grade cursed spirits that could have ended the series’ main protagonist if he wanted, were it not for a certain plot twist that we want to avoid discussing since it’s a spoiler.
Regardless, Choso is around the same level as someone like Mahito.
Mahito
Mahito is also one of the featured villains back in season 1, and he did quite a lot of damage to society, considering how he believes that he was born from human beings’ hatred for one another. This made him an easy ally for the likes of Suguru Geto, who wanted to wipe out the human population.
Mojito suffered a rather embarrassing defeat at the hands of a student and a Grade 1 sorcerer back in season 1, but he’ll eventually be back with a vengeance in season 2. If the anime will follow the manga closely, Mahito will further cause some irreparable damage to the sorcerer’s ranks.
The upcoming Shibuya Incident Arc will allow him to flex some newfound powers, such as his ability to create perfect clones of himself and a vast improvement in his fighting skill– enough to grant him a round 2 revenge against Yuji Itadori.
Cursed Rika
Sadly, Cursed or Awakened Rika is no more after her host, Yuta Okkotsu exercises her near the end of Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie. Cursed Rika easily defeated Suguru Geto’s Tamamo-no-Mae Incarnate and even killed the rogue sorcerer.
She’s also one of the few cursed spirits whom fans surmise could defeat an incomplete Sukuna, the King of Curses. For the record, even Mahito couldn’t defeat one finger of Sukuna. It’s plausible that Rika paired with her host, Okkotsu, can defeat several fingers of Sukuna though likely not if Sukuna has all of his 20 fingers (since he has four arms).
Sadly, we might never see a development like this in Jujutsu Kaisen, so this is a rough speculation.
Sukuna
There was never another cursed spirit in consideration for the strongest. Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, can lay waste to all other cursed spirits on this list even without all of his 20 fingers, which are the source of his power.
It took more than 1,000 Golden Age Jujutsu sorcerers (who are around the same level as Gojo) to seal Sukuna away since he can’t be killed, apparently. He’s the strongest there is among cursed spirits and someone who has a high chance of defeating and killing even someone like Satoru Gojo, the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer.
Consequently, Satoru Gojo is also the only sorcerer capable of defeating Sukuna, but it’s still hard to say who will win.
