The final Jain Zar Legendary Release Event (LRE) is here in Warhammer 40K: Tacticus, so if you were hoping to unlock this character through skill rather than opening an endless amount of Requisition Scrolls, you’d do well to read this quick guide. Like every LRE, there are three mission tracks, each with different requirements you need to follow to get event currency, which unlocks crates that contain shards. The shards are used to unlock Jain Zar, a character that isn’t all that useful but still nice to have, and you’ll need 150 of them to do so.
Luckily for us, our progress is saved in between events, so if you participated in the Jain Zar event previously, you’ll have the same amount of shards and mission progress as before. If you were having trouble progressing before, hopefully, you’ve done some work on your characters and can squeeze out a few more points this time around. We’ve included a few different teams for each track you can use to maximize the amount of points you can get. Before we get to that, though, let’s take a look at whether or not the paid packs are worth it for the event.
Should I buy the packs for the Jain Zar event?

The answer to this question depends on a few things, mainly how badly you want Jain Zar and do you have the extra cash to spend. Each pack costs $20, but there is definitely a better pack to buy, depending on your situation.
The first pack is the one that gives you a bonus of 15 event currency for every payout, be it from one of the missions or an event milestone. This one can easily result in hundreds of additional currency since it includes an additional premium mission track worth 400 event currency. It also includes a free event token every day (no ad-watch required) and six bonus event tokens you can use immediately.
The second pack is essentially a 2700 blackstone purchase with an additional 300 event currency. If we do the math, the first pack can be worth a lot more since you’ll get a bonus of 550 event currency by fully completing the free mission track and the premium mission track, not to mention the bonus event currency from milestone payouts.
If we only had enough money to buy one pack, we’d opt for the first one with the bonus payouts. It’s certainly a better use of money and can easily make the difference between unlocking the character and being short 10-20 shards.
Alpha Track (Xenos Only)
With the question about the event packs out of the way, let’s dive into the mission tracks and each of their requirements. Starting off with the Alpha Track, we have the following requirements:
- Full-Physical Damage Line-Up
- Full-Ranged Line-Up
- Max 3 Hits Line-Up
- Full-Necrons Line-Up
- No Summons
Do note that you can only use Xenos characters for this track (and Sarquael, oddly enough), which means the Ultramarines, Adepta Soroitas, Astra Militarum, Black Legion, Death Guard, and Black Templars are all off-limits.
Ideally, you can break this track up into three separate teams. The first team focuses on the Physical damage requirement and uses Calandis, Makhotep, Gibbascrapz, Snappwrecka, and Snotflogga. If needed, you could swap Snotflogga out for Tanksmasha, Darkstrider, and the Neurothrope, but Snotflogga would be better due to his summons.
The second team is Necron only and can only be comprised of Aleph-Null, Anuphet, Imospekh, Makhotep, and Thutmose. There are no substitutions here, so level these characters as high as possible since the Necron-only requirement is worth 110 points, the most points for the Alpha Track.
The third team satisfies the Ranged, Max 3 Hit, and No Summons requirements. Calandis, Eldryon, Makhotep, Snappawrecka, Boss Gulgortz, or Anuphet are the best options for this team, but you can swap one of them out for Thutmose if needed.

By the way!
Did you know we’re launching a Kickstarter campaign? In the next few months, our campaign for ‘Gentle Jack: The Party Game for Bad Friends‘ goes live! Visit the official website or follow the Kickstarter page to stay in the loop.
Beta Track (Imperial Only)

The Beta Track is also split up into three teams, but if you got lucky with your 10-pulls and somehow managed to unlock Yarrick, High Marshall Helbrecht, and Marneus Calgar, you can breeze through early levels and satisfy all five requirements, saving a lot of tokens in the long run.
That said, not all of us are so lucky. You can combine the Power damage, Bolter damage, and No Summons requirements, saving tokens, too, though. This team would be composed of Burchard, Helbrecht, Calgar, Morvenn Vahl, and Yarrick.
Otherwise, let’s break it down into the three necessary teams. Starting with Power damage only, we have Yarrick, Thoread, Burchard, Jaeger, and Godswyl, but there are plenty of alternatives like Calgar, Ulf, Vahl, and Celestine.
The second team will satisfy the Bolter damage and No Summons requirements. Isabella, Yarrick, Burchard, Bellator, and Certus can easily power through these levels, especially if you turtle in a corner with Yarrick, Burchard, Belaltor, and Isabella. Feel free to swap in Calgar, Helbrecht, or Vahl if needed.
The final two requirements are No Blast Damage and Max 2 Hits. A team of Castellan Creed, Yarrick, Jaeger, Certus, and Varros can easily fill these requirements. Swap in Calgar, Sibyll, Incisus, or Godswyl if needed.
Gamma Track (No Orks)
With the only disallowed factions being Orks, there’s a lot more flexibility in the Gamma Track. There’s no easy way to combine teams, so you’re better off splitting it up into three teams, the first being a minimum of 4 hits.
If you were lucky enough to unlock Maugan Ra in the previous event, you’ll be able to use him here alongside Angrax, Haarken, Volk, Rotbone, and Bellator. Feel free to swap anyone out for Re’vas, Burchard, Kut Skoden, Vindicta, or any other minimum 4 hit character you have (there are a ton).
The second team will focus on Piercing Damage characters and No Mechanical traits. Aethana, Calandis, Eldryon, Sho’Syl, and Haarken shine here, but if you need healing, you can throw in Incisus for Haarken or any other character.
The final team requires Bolter Damage units that cannot fly. Isabella is a premium character to use here since you can turtle and push higher levels thanks to her healing ability, one of the best abilities in the game. Pair her with Yarrick, Burchard, Calgar, Certus, Helbrecht, Abaddon, Vahl, or Roswitha as needed.
There isn’t too much else to say about the event. Maximize your tokens by trying to complete as many requirements as possible, and when the going gets tough, grind the levels out with the help of Isabella and Nauseous Rotbone. Hopefully, you can unlock Jain Zar this time around—good luck!
