How to Get XP Books in Tacticus

Arguably the biggest bottleneck in Warhammer 40K: Tacticus is XP. While you might breeze through the early levels with campaign XP and Arena XP, you’re going to start needing Epic and Legendary XP books to really hit the higher levels. When you start needing 10+ Legendary XP tomes to go up a single level, that’s when you know the grind is real. If you’re wondering how you’ll ever get Eldryon’s Doom to level 50, here’s a quick and easy guide on how to get more XP books in Tacticus. However, you should first know who to spend XP tomes on.

Who to Spend XP Books on in Tacticus

XP tomes are a rare commodity. If you just started playing and feel like they’re given out willy-nilly, just wait. You’ll be wishing you saved every single one. XP books should only be spent on characters you plan on leveling. That seems straightforward enough, but it can get confusing fairly easily.

Ideally, you have a Guild Raid team and an Arena comp set in mind. These characters are your bread and butter. If you plan on leveling a character to Gold 1, you should give them enough XP tomes to reach that level, but never anything more. Unless their abilities are so vital to your comp that they warrant being higher than their current level, avoid spending XP tomes on them. Trust us, you’ll want to save them.

The Guild Shop

Every day in the Guild Shop, you can buy a Legendary XP Book for 300 Guild Credits. If you’re in a guild that beats enough bosses and buys the packs that share Guild Credits among friends, this means that you can buy a Legendary XP Book every day, if not two every other day. This is a great resource for XP Books.

Likewise, if you’re swimming in Guild Credits, you can refresh the Guild Shop and purchase a second book every day. If you do not have the Rogue Trader unlocked, this is the best source of XP Books in the game for players.

The Rogue Trader

Once you’ve carried a character to a blue star, you’ll unlock the Rogue Trader. The Rogue Trader is another store where you can transfer all of your extra shards into a currency that you can spend on various items and shards that will help you progress further. Arguably, the best way to spend these Archeotech shards is XP Books.

Every single day, you can either buy 2 Legendary XP Books for 23 Archeotech shards or 3 for 35 Archeotech shards. You can buy these packs twice daily and refresh the shop for 250 Blackstone, which isn’t the best way to spend it. Regardless, this is easily the fastest way to get XP Books if you have an abundance of shards, but it’s not the best way to spend Orbs, making it not so useful for most players.

Tournament Arena

Tournament Arena comes around about twice a month. During that time, you can compete for points, which will unlock crates and awards varying from Energy to Badges to XP Books. The biggest reward is the final crate for Tournament Arena, which gives you 5 Legendary XP Books. This can be about 10 total each month, which is a huge amount when that’s a single level for higher-level characters. In short, don’t avoid Tournament Arena, even if you hate it.

The Daily Shop

The Daily Shop can be a great source of upgrades, badges, orbs, and even XP Books. On weekends, one of the six slots is replaced with XP Books, making it an easy source of experience if you have the Blackstone to dish out. If you buy the Daily Blackstone Shipment, you should have more than enough to pick up these books.

Campaign Battles

Certain campaign battles will have Legendary XP Books as a reward. These tend to be elite battles, but regardless, they can be a decent source of books, especially if you’re in the late game and have neglected these chapters. You should be pushing through the Elite Campaigns anyway since they have higher rates of upgrades than Mirror Campaigns, based on each energy spent.
