The Preservation Path is one of seven available paths in Honkai: Star Rail (HSR). There have been eighteen mentioned in total, but only seven are in-game. Followers of the Preservation Path pride themselves on having powerful defensive abilities and being able to protect their allies in battle. Here’s a brief write-up that contains everything you need to know about the Preservation Path in Honkai: Star Rail.
What Is the Preservation Path in Honkai: Star Rail?
The Preservation is a path that three characters in-game follow, one of them being the Trailblazer themselves. All Paths are represented by an Aeon, with the Preservation’s being Qlipoth. Qlipoth attempts to isolate planets and keep them separated from each other, hence the word “preservation.”
In the same vein as protecting planets from outside destruction, characters that follow the path of The Preservation find themselves with extraordinary defensive capabilities and can help keep their teammates alive in the heat of battle. That means that characters under this path can be expected to be more of a support/tank character than a pure damage dealer like those that follow the Hunt or Destruction path.
Preservation Light Cones
When it comes to Light Cones, The Preservation Path has less than others but still has some useful ones for characters. As always, you should check our individual character guides if you’re looking to find the best Light Cones to use for your character. Some of these Light Cones increase the wearer’s defense, apply Burns, or even heal.
5-Star Preservation Light Cones
- Moment of Victory: Increases the wearer’s DEF by 24~40% and Effect Hit Rate by 24~40%. Increases the chance for the wearer to be attacked by enemies. When the wearer is attacked, increase their DEF by an extra 24~40% until the end of the wearer’s turn.
- Texture of Memories: Increases the wearer’s Effect RES by 8~16%. If the wearer is attacked and has no Shield, they gain a Shield equal to 16~32% of their Max HP for 2 turn(s). This effect can only be triggered once every 3 turns. If the wearer has a Shield when attacked, the DMG they receive decreases by 12~24%.
4-Star Preservation Light Cones
- Day One of My New Life: Increases wearer’s DEF by 16~24%. After entering battle, increases DMG RES of all allies by 8~12%. Effects of the same type cannot stack.
- Landau’s Choice: The wearer is more likely to be attacked, but DMG taken is reduced by 16~24%.
- This is Me!: Increases the wearer’s DEF by 16~32%. Increases the DMG of the wearer when they use their Ultimate by 60~120% of the wearer’s DEF. This effect only applies 1 time per enemy target.
- Trend of the Universal Market: Increases the wearer’s DEF by 16~32%. When the wearer is attacked, there is a 100~120% base chance to Burn the enemy. For each turn, the wearer deals DoT that is equal to 40~80% of the wearer’s DEF for 2 turns.
- We Are Wildfire: At the start of the battle, the DMG dealt to all allies decreases by 8~16% for 5 turn(s). At the same time, immediately restores HP to all allies equal to 30~50% of the respective HP difference between the characters’ Max HP and current HP.
3-Star Preservation Light Cones
- Amber: Increases DEF of its wearer by 16~32%. If the current HP of its wearer is less than 50~50% of Max HP, increases DEF by an extra 16~32%.
- Defense: When the wearer unleashes their Ultimate, they restore HP by 18~30% of their Max HP.
- Pioneering: When the wearer Breaks an enemy’s Weakness, the wearer restores HP by 12~20% of their Max HP.
Preservation Path Characters in Honkai: Star Rail
There are currently three in-game characters that follow the path of Preservation, with one more slated to arrive sometime in the near future. One of the three Preservation characters currently available is the Trailblazer themselves, whether they’re male or female. There’s no variety when it comes to Elements, as the two in-game characters that aren’t the Trailblazer are both Ice damage dealers. Here’s what you need to know about the other three characters under the Preservation Path.
1. March 7th (Ice, 4-star)
March 7th is one of the first characters you’ll be introduced to during the main story. She’s a support character that deals Ice damage and can easily freeze enemies or shield allies from incoming damage. Her Ultimate has a chance to freeze the entire enemy team if the RNG gods are on your side.
2. Gepard (Ice, 5-star)
Gepard is also a support character—to no one’s surprise. His ultimate applies a shield to all allies and his Talent prevents him from dying once per battle. Using his Technique to start a fight gives a decent sized shield to all allies. Gepard doesn’t deal a ton of damage, but he can easily keep your DPS allies alive throughout a whole battle.
3. Fu Xuan (Quantum, TBD)
There is currently little known about Fu Xuan besides that she is on The Preservation Path and will deal Quantum damage, which is nice since Gepard and March 7th both deal Ice damage. When she is finally released in-game, or HoYo decides to showcase her abilities, we will update this page with everything we know.
