Honkai: Star Rail Physical Element, Explained

Honkai: Star Rail (HSR)’s characters bring different kits to the table, each featuring a different Path (a.k.a class) and Element that makes them effective against specific enemies. There are currently seven elements in the game with Physical being the first element introduced to players through the Trailblazer.

Unlike HoYoverse’s other hit game, Genshin Impact, the Physical element in Honkai: Star Rail can’t be dealt by all characters through their normal attacks. Only Physical characters are able to deal Physical damage.

What Is Physical Element and Physical Damage in Honkai: Star Rail?

The Physical element in Honkai: Star Rail triggers the Physical Weakness Break in enemies that are vulnerable to Physical damage and makes lowering their Toughness bar faster. Enemies in HSR do not have a fixed elemental weakness and are instead randomly assigned elemental weaknesses from a set of possible elemental weaknesses whenever you start a battle.

After triggering the Physical Weakness Break, your character deals an instance of Physical DMG on the enemy, followed by applying the Bleed effect. Bleed applies Physical DoT on enemies. During this time, an enemy will also be vulnerable to all types of damage, letting you go in with your strongest character no matter what their element is.

Physical Element Relic Sets

There are currently two Relic sets you can use on your Physical element characters to help optimize their damage and overall performance.

Champion of Streetwise Boxing

The Champion of Streetwise Boxing set can be obtained from the Path of Jabbing Punch, a Cavern of Corrosion located in the Silvermane Guard Restricted Zone.

  • 2-Piece Set Bonus: Increases Physical DMG by 10%.
  • 4-Piece Set Bonus: After the wearer attacks or is hit, their ATK increases by 5% for the rest of the battle. This effect can stack up to 5 time(s).

The Champion of Streetwise Boxing set includes the following Relic pieces:

  • Champion’s Headgear
  • Champion’s Heavy Glove
  • Champion’s Chest Guard

Physical Element Characters in Honkai: Star Rail

There are currently four characters in Honkai: Star Rail capable of dealing Physical damage, though not all of them are centered on damage dealing as a whole.

1. The Trailblazer (The Destruction, 5-star)

The very first iteration of the Trailblazer deals Physical damage and follows the Path of the Destruction. This Trailblazer’s kit is optimized around being the main damage dealer in a team.

2. Natasha (The Abundance, 4-star)

Natasha is a healer that deals Physical damage, but isn’t exactly the kind of character you can expect to rely on for it. Her only source of Physical damage is her normal attack, a single bullet that isn’t quite enough to break an enemy’s toughness in a reasonable number of turns.

3. Sushang (The Hunt, 4-star)

Being a The Hunt character, Sushang is exceptional at triggering the Physical Weakness Break in enemies. Her kit is focused on single-target damage, making her quite fast at triggering the Break effect. Not to mention, she has Traces that give her buffs for breaking enemies.

4. Clara (The Destruction, 5-star)

Another exceptional damage dealer with good defensive capabilities, Clara is capable of sustaining her own damage without needing a lot of help from a healer. She deals both single-target and AoE Physical damage together with Mr. Svarog. Clara taunts enemies into attacking her and, if attacked, has the chance to cleanse debuffs from herself and deal counter damage on enemies.
