It’s not every day you get a Paladin archetype character that’s played straight but still comes off as nuanced. Gepard Landau manages it while giving your team shields to rival Zhongli’s. As the Captain of the Silvermane Guards, Gepard’s role is to protect Belobog, which, kit design-wise, translates to a skillset that trivializes a lot of the damage in the game.
Gepard is so good that if you have him, he’s almost an auto-add to any team you make. While other Preservation characters, namely March 7th, can also provide a shield or mitigate damage, like Clara, a well-built Gepard can make a healer useless in your team.
But to get the most out of Gepard, you’ll need to keep these tips in mind.
Best Relic Set and Ornaments for Gepard
Knight of Purity Palace

Gepard’s skills are split-scaled. His offensive abilities scale off ATK, while his defensive abilities scale off DEF. Had his kit and role been different, this could have made building him hard. But the key to building Gepard is to ignore dealing damage in favor of…well, ignoring damage. You’ll want to stack as much DEF on your Gepard as possible. The Relic set Knight of Purity Palace provides set bonuses based on DEF and shields.
Here’s what Knight of Purity Palace does:
- 2-Piece Set – Increases DEF by 15%
- 4-Piece Set – Increases the max DMG that can be absorbed by the shield created by the wearer by 20%.
Note that Knight of Purity Palace applies the 4-Piece Set buff to any shield created by the wearer, not just the shield that the wearer has.
You can find the Knight of Purity Palace set in the Path of Holy Hymn Cavern of Corrosion in the Cloudford area of the Xianzhou map. If you’re building Gepard, you might want to build a Lightning character (like his older sister Serval), as the Band of Sizzling Thunder relic set is also located there.
Guard of Wuthering Snow

Guard of Wuthering Snow is practically designed for Gepard. The design is a dead giveaway, but the set bonuses are built around keeping your Gepard alive so he can keep shielding your team. The extra HP and Energy Regen let you pull off close saves. Imagine this: Your team is nearly out of health, and you’re about to have a full-party kill on your hands. Gepard is taken out by an enemy, but Unyielding Will brings him back. His HP will almost certainly be below 50%, and it will trigger the 4-piece set bonus. That 5 Energy you get at the start of your turn could mean the difference between losing or getting Enduring Bulwark up.
Here’s what Guard of Wuthering Snow does:
- 2-Piece Set – Reduces DMG taken by 8%.
- 4-Piece Set – At the beginning of the turn, if the wearer’s HP is equal to or less than 50%, restores HP equal to 8% of their max HP and regenerates 5 Energy.
The Guard of Wuthering Snow set can be obtained at the Path of Providence Cavern of Corrosion, which is located in the Everwinter Hill area of the Jarilo-VI map.

By the way!
Did you know weโre launching a Kickstarter campaign? In the next few months, our campaign for โGentle Jack: The Party Game for Bad Friendsโ goes live! Visit the official website or follow the Kickstarter page to stay in the loop.
For Gepard’s Planar Ornaments, we recommend you go with:
- Sprightly Vonwacq: Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, the wearer’s action is Advanced Forward by 40% immediately upon entering battle.
- Belobog of the Architects: Increases the wearer’s DEF by 15%. When the wearer’s Effect Hit Rate is 50% or higher, the wearer gains an extra 15% DEF.
Relic Stats to Prioritize for Gepard
Gepard needs his DEF and Energy Regen so he can keep spamming shields for your team. His relic stats tend to be more forgiving since he’s a support. There’s no need to stress over getting Crit Rate or Crit DMG stats, just slap DEF onto Gepard, and you’re good to go.
- Body: DEF
- Feet: DEF
- Planar Sphere: Ice DMG or DEF
- Link Rope: Energy Regen
Best Light Cones for Gepard
Moment of Victory

Moment of Victory is Gepard’s best-in-slot light cone. It’s a 5-star light cone that can be obtained from the Starlight Exchange Store. The light cone’s abilities are designed around keeping Gepard alive so he can keep the rest of your team alive. It has the added benefit of taunting enemies into attacking Gepard more than other characters on your team.
Here’s Moment of Victory’s ability:
- Increases the wearer’s DEF by 24% and Effect Hit Rate by 24%. Increases the chance for the wearer to be attacked by enemies. When the wearer is attached, increase their DEF by an extra 24% until the end of the wearer’s turn.
Budget Alternative

Another light cone that features Gepard in the art, Landau’s Choice, is a 4-star Preservation light cone that does a literal budget version of what Moment of Victory does. The light cone taunts enemies but also reduces damage.
Here’s Landau’s Choice’s ability:
- The wearer is more likely to be attacked, but DMG taken is reduced by 16%.
Skill Priorities for Gepard

Gepard is meant to shield your team and survive every attack so he can keep doing so. His entire kit is dedicated to protecting his team and bringing him back to life — at least once every battle. Leave dealing damage to your DPS and Sub DPS by prioritizing these skills.
- Enduring Bulwark (Ultimate): Applies a Shield to all allies, absorbing DMG equal to 30% of Gepard’s DEF plus 150 for 3 turn(s).
- Unyielding Will (Talent): When struck with a killing blow, instead of becoming incapacitated, Gepard’s HP immediately restores to 25% of his Max HP. This effect can only trigger once per battle.
- Commander (Bonus Ability): When โUnyielding Willโ is triggered, Gepardโs Energy will be restored to 100%.
- Daunting Smite (Skill): Deals Ice DMG equal to 100% of Gepardโs ATK to a single enemy, with a 65% base chance to Freeze the enemy for 1 turn(s). While Frozen, the enemy cannot take action and will take Additional Ice DMG equal to 30% of Gepardโs ATK at the beginning of each turn.
- Fist of Conviction (Basic Attack): Deals Ice DMG equal to 50% of Gepard’s ATK to a single enemy.
To upgrade those abilities, you’ll need:
Endurance of Bronze (Tier 1) | Silvermane Badge (Tier 1) | Tracks of Destiny |
Oath of Steel (Tier 2) | Silvermane Insignia (Tier 2) | Guardianโs Lament |
Safeguard of Amber (Tier 3) | Silvermane Medal (Tier 3) | Credits |
Gepard Team Composition

Barring teams that involve Clara, where Gepard would be redundant, Gepard fits the standard DPS – Sub DPS – Support – Shielder team composition. With a sufficiently built Gepard, you can skip having a healer. Because Gepard can deal decent damage and Freeze enemies, he brings more to the table in terms of role compression than a simple healer character. In simpler terms, he’s not a one-trick pony, and unless you’re running Luocha, he’s almost always the better pick.
- Pela weakens enemies and applies Ice DMG, helping your Gepard keep enemies Frozen.
- Seele is a selfish DPS that keeps taking another turn with her “Resurgence” ability, letting her more than makeup for all the damage Gepard isn’t dealing.
- Asta is a support that lets your characters take their turn sooner, allowing you to put Gepard’s shield up before an enemy can shred through your defenses.
