Genshin Impact is a free-to-play game and is thus subject to certain monetization techniques that are employed or even considered the industry standard by a lot of identically-priced games. The battle pass system is one of those. It’s a bit more multi-layered compared to others, so you’d want a Genshin Impact battle pass guide, naturally.
There’s even a lore for the Genshin Impact battle pass, making it less immersion-breaking than the usual implementation of such a system.
If you want to learn how it works and, later on, how to get the most out of the Genshin Impact battle pass system, then here’s a handy guide to put you up to speed.
The Genshin Impact battle pass is called…
Battle Pass. That’s it.
It’s a recurring meta event that’s divided into two tracks. There’s the normal or free-to-play track, and it’s called Sojourner’s Battle Pass.
And then there’s the premium battle pass track called Gnostic Hymn.
Either track gives players Mora, Fragile Resins, level-up materials, Fates, and lots of other rewards though Gnostic Hymn gives more in quantity and throws some nifty bonuses. As expected, the rewards from the Gnostic Hymn are considerably more valuable.
Each track shares the same level or progression metric, which goes as high as level 50, with each level presenting a different or varied reward.
How does it work?
In order to unlock the Genshin Impact battle pass, your account will need to be Adventure Rank 20. It will automatically unlock at that rank, accompanied by a short cinematic explaining its relevance to the lore (it has actual lore!).
Each level of the Genshin Impact battle pass requires 1000 EXP, and overall, there are 50 levels.
In order to gain this EXP, players need to fulfill tasks or missions, of which there are three types: Daily, Weekly, and BP Period, and these correspond to their duration before they reset and are available again to fulfill.
- Daily missions reset every day at 4:00 AM on your server time. (Asia: GMT+8, Europe: GMT+1, America: GMT-5).
- Weekly missions reset every Monday at the aforementioned time zones, also 4:00 AM usually.
- And BP Period missions last for the entire duration of the battle pass event run.
Daily missions give out the lowest EXP, while Weekly and BP Missions give out bigger chunks of EXP. You will need to monitor your efforts since there’s a weekly EXP limit of 8,000. Once you’ve reached that, you’ll have to wait until next week in order to perform and fulfill battle pass missions again.
Moreover, the Genshin Impact battle pass usually lasts for 40+ days on average. After that, the whole event will be reset and replaced by another Battle Pass, and your progress and efforts will be back to zero regardless of whether it’s the free Sojourn Battle Pass or the paid Gnostic Hymn.
Additional reward at level 30 of the Genshin Impact Battle Pass
In addition to all the resources and currency you’ll be obtaining, you’re also eligible for a 4-star weapon from the paid Gnostic Hymn reward track once you’ve reached level 30 of the Genshin Impact battle pass.
In total, there are five 4-star weapons for every season of the Genshin Impact battle pass– one for every weapon type, and they rotate with different models and names each season.
Once you’ve reached level 30 of the battle pass, you’ll be able to pick one of these five available 4-star weapons.
It’s worth noting that these weapons are available only in the Battle Pass and nowhere else, meaning if you want to refine them using duplicates, you’ll have to wait for several more seasons, and this could take several months or even more than a year if you want a Refinement 5 4-star weapon from the Battle Pass. Even Genshin Impact‘s bonafide geriatrics might find that wait too long.
How much is the Genshin Impact battle pass?
As we mentioned earlier, the default Sojourner’s Battle Pass is free. It’s the Gnostic Hymn you have to pay for, and access to it costs around $10 USD for each season.
The Gnostic Hymn sits at the bottom of the Sojourner’s Battle Pass, and again, they share level progression, but the former remains locked until you’ve bought the $10 premium access. Thankfully, the rewards will be retroactively given to you even if you purchased the Gnostic Hymn access later. So you can level up the Battle Pass with no worries.
The Gnostic Hymn will effectively double or triple the rewards you’ll be getting in the Battle Pass on top of giving you an additional 4-star weapon of your choice.
These weapons are also powerful, and some of them are worthy alternatives to 5-star weapons or even surpass them in certain scenarios and Genshin’s powerful meta character builds.
If you want to advance your level in the Battle Pass without fulfilling Battle Pass missions or tasks, you can always pay 150 Primogems for each level though considering how a Fate for wishing in banners costs 160 Primogems, that’s quite wasteful. It’s still good enough for an emergency when you need to catch up quickly.
You can also purchase an upgraded version of the Gnostic Hymn access called Gnostic Chorus for around $20 USD. This Gnostic Chorus will advance your Battle Pass level by 10, netting all the consequent rewards from those levels. It will also give additional resources and some account cosmetics. It’s great for when you’re still below Battle Pass level 40 and need to catch up before the event expires.
Get the most out of your Gnostic Hymn with this tip
In order to get the most out of your Genshin Impact battle pass, you’re going to need to practice some restraint with the Gnostic Hymn.
It’s generally considered wiser by the community to first reach your target level in the Battle Pass (whether it’s 30 or 50) before purchasing the Gnostic Hymn access. Otherwise, you might end up wasting your Gnostic Hymn and your $10 if you purchase it from the start and fail to reach your target level.
It’s also worth noting that you’ll need to be diligent with your Battle Pass missions to the point of exhausting your weekly 8000-EXP limit every week in order to ensure that you can reach the final level before the 40+ day event duration.
This way, your Genshin Impact waifus, and husbandos can get all the materials they need.
