In true RPG fashion, there’s no shortage of conundrums in Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion. In total, there are five Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty endings and they’re all dramatic ways to cap off the expansion’s story. Two of them can also alter the overall ending of the rather long base game, and that’s something to keep in mind.
With that said, all Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty endings depend on three crossroad missions in the expansion’s main story. The first pivotal mission can branch off two ways and then four ways once you’ve reached the second or third pivotal mission.
Keep an eye out for these three missions

The three pivotal missions in question would be:
- Firestarter: In this quest, the player, along with Alex, infiltrates Hansen’s meeting by posing as the dynamic French netrunner twins. The choices here are clear:
- Help Songbird escape
- Aid Reed in capturing Songbird
- Killing Moon: If you choose to assist Songbird in escaping during Firestarter, you will face a significant dialogue moment at the end of the quest. It’s a last-minute opportunity to change your decision in case you regret helping Songbird (and you will). Here, you must decide whether to:
- Kill Reed, allowing Songbird to escape to Luna
- Hand Songbird over to the NUSA
- Somewhat Damaged: If you side with Reed in capturing Songbird, you’ll be locked out of the “Killing Moon” quest and you’ll get this pivotal quest instead. The two choices here are:
- Don’t help Songbird die
- Help Songbird die
The Five Endings for Phantom Liberty
Depending on which courses of action you pick in “Firestarter” and later on in “Killing Moon,” you can achieve these five endings:
- King Of Wands: Help Songbird | Kill Reed.
- King Of Swords: Help Songbird | Hand Songbird to Reed.
- King Of Pentacles: Help Reed capture Songbird | Don’t help Songbird die.
- King Of Cups: Help Reed capture Songbird | Help Songbird die.
- Fifth Ending: Help Songbird | Hand Songbird to Reed but refuse Reed’s help.
Here’s a deeper explanation for each ending.
1. King Of Wands – Side with Songbird & Kill Reed

In this ending, you wholeheartedly support Songbird’s escape from Reed’s grasp. To achieve the King Of Wands ending, follow these steps:
- In the “Firestarter” mission, choose “I’m with you” (Help Songbird escape).
- In the “Killing Moon” mission, choose “Time to go, So Mi” (Pick up Songbird).
- When Reed confronts you, choose “Reed, dammit!” or draw your weapon.
The King Of Wands ending is bittersweet. While you’ll be securing Songbird’s freedom, a confrontation with Reed forces you to make a challenging decision about his fate. However, your reward is Reed’s iconic tech pistol, the Pariah. Following this, you can send So Mi on her journey to the moon, leading to an emotional conversation with Johnny.
2. King Of Swords – Side with Songbird then Betray Her

The King Of Swords ending results from aiding Songbird’s escape during “Firestarter” but then handing her over to Reed during “Killing Moon.” To obtain this ending, follow one of these routes:
- In the “Firestarter” mission, choose “I’m with you” (Help Songbird escape).
- In the “Killing Moon” mission, choose “Reed’ll take care of you” (Call Reed).
OR as an alternative
- In the “Firestarter” mission, choose “I’m with you” (Help Songbird escape).
- In the “Killing Moon” mission, choose “Time to go, So Mi” (Pick up Songbird).
- When Reed confronts you, choose “All yours, but you’ll help me live on” (Holster weapon).
The King Of Swords ending leaves you with a sense of ambiguity. Reed’s departure raises questions about his actions, and V’s Relic ordeal may soon be cured. Additionally, this path also opens the door to an alternative ending for the base game known as “The Tower.”

3. King Of Pentacles – Side with Reed & Leave Songbird Be

This ending involves aiding Reed in capturing Songbird during “Firestarter” and refusing to help So Mi end her suffering in “Somewhat Damaged.” To reach the King Of Pentacles ending, follow these steps:
- In the “Firestarter” mission, choose “One more second…” (Help Reed capture Songbird).
- In the “Somewhat Damaged” mission, choose “That’s not a solution!”.
- Then choose “Won’t do it” (Spare So Mi).
The King Of Pentacles ending can be conflicting. V helps Reed capture So Mi, but the decision to spare her life despite her suffering adds moral complexity to the story. Afterward, a conversation with Reed questions the implications of their actions. This path also allows you to progress with the base game’s story or unlock the secret “Tower” ending.
4. King Of Cups – Side with Reed & Help Songbird Die

In the King Of Cups ending, you assist Reed in capturing Songbird during “Firestarter” and then make the difficult choice to end So Mi’s suffering during “Somewhat Damaged.” Follow these steps:
- In the “Firestarter” mission, choose “One more second…” (Help Reed capture Songbird).
- In the “Somewhat Damaged” mission, choose “OK. I’ll do it” (Kill So Mi).
OR
- In the “Firestarter” mission, choose “One more second…” (Help Reed capture Songbird).
- In the “Somewhat Damaged” mission, choose “That’s not a solution!”.
- Then choose “Fine” (Kill So Mi).
The King Of Cups ending delivers a rather somber conclusion where V also gains nothing. Reed’s actions lead to a bleak ending, where So Mi’s suffering comes to an end. This ending doesn’t involve a cure for V, and it also doesn’t unlock the optional “Tower” ending of the base game.
5. The Fifth Ending – Help Songbird, Betray Her, then Reject Reed’s Help

The unnamed fifth ending isn’t a complete ending to Phantom Liberty but is more of a premature conclusion that occurs if you help Songbird escape and then choose:
- “Take her. Don’t want nothin’ in return” when Reed confronts you at the shuttle.
This route doesn’t offer further missions and ends the expansion story with an unsatisfactory closure. You also won’t get the additional base game ending. Consider it as a lose-lose solution for V.
Unlocking the Base Game’s “Tower” Ending

After completing either the King Of Swords or King Of Pentacles ending, you can open up the option into an alternative ending for the base Cyberpunk 2077 game, known as the “Tower” ending.
This route includes two optional Phantom Liberty missions:
- “Who Wants To Live Forever”
- “Things Done Changed.”
We would warn you, however, that picking these options (by calling Reed) during the rooftop conversation with Johnny before the final Arasaka tower assault will skip that actual assault.
In these missions, V leaves Night City to undergo surgery to cure himself of the Relic. When V awakens, two years have passed, and they are cured, but they have lost all their cyberware and their capacity to use cybernetics.
You’ll have the chance to reconnect with old friends, including the romance options from the base game. However, they have all moved on in various ways over the past two years, leaving V behind.
It’s a fitting counterbalance to the standard blaze-of-glory endings and the corporate ending of the base game where V practically becomes an NPC. All base game endings are still tragic, of course. Such is the case for cyberpunk tales.
